New Client FAQs

Does Serenity Seekers Psychiatry prescribe controlled medications?

Yes. We consider all appropriate treatment options to provide safe, effective, and personalized care for each patient. In some cases, this may include controlled medications. However, for the safety of our patients, individuals who require more than one controlled medication concurrently will be referred to an in-person provider. We follow responsible prescribing practices at all times.

Can my provider complete documentation for me, such as disability paperwork or ESA letters?

Yes, in most cases our nurse practitioner will be glad to complete documentation on your behalf. To do so accurately and responsibly, your provider will need a thorough understanding of your history and treatment. Generally, we ask that you have been seen consistently for at least 3 months before we complete documentation for more significant accommodations. Please note there is a fee associated with this service.

What does it cost to have documentation or a letter completed?

Accommodation and emotional support animal (ESA) letters are billed at $75. Disability-related paperwork, such as FMLA forms, is billed at $150.

How does Serenity Seekers Psychiatry save me time and money?

We offer convenient online booking with no phone tag, no waiting rooms, and no travel time. Our psychiatric nurse practitioner provides both medication management and therapeutic support in a single appointment, offering continuity of care and real cost savings compared to seeing multiple providers separately.

Does Serenity Seekers Psychiatry accept insurance?

Yes, we accept several major insurance plans. Please visit our Insurance page or contact us directly to confirm whether your specific plan is accepted. If you have out-of-network benefits, you may pay privately and we will provide a superbill for you to submit to your insurance for potential reimbursement.

Where does Serenity Seekers Psychiatry offer services?

We are currently licensed to provide services to patients located in New Jersey and New York. You must be physically present in one of these states at the time of your appointment. More locations will be added as we expand!

Is Serenity Seekers Psychiatry the right fit for everyone?

We strive to help as many patients as possible, but the virtual nature of our practice means we must be thoughtful about who we can safely treat. We do not treat individuals under the age of 13, and certain complex or high-acuity conditions may require in-person care. If we are not the right fit for your needs, we will always provide referrals to appropriate in-person providers.

What type of care does Serenity Seekers Psychiatry provide?

We provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management for a range of mental health concerns including anxiety, depression, ADHD, mood disorders, PTSD, insomnia, panic disorder, and life-related stress, among others.

What conditions are outside the scope of care at Serenity Seekers Psychiatry?

For safety and quality of care, we do not treat active psychosis, schizophrenia, active suicidal ideation requiring crisis intervention, active substance use disorders, or eating disorders requiring medical monitoring. We also do not treat children under the age of 13. If you are unsure whether we can help, please reach out and we will guide you in the right direction.

How does the ADHD evaluation process work?

Our board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner will guide you through a thorough, collaborative ADHD evaluation. This includes a detailed clinical interview, review of your history, and discussion of treatment options. Our goal is to ensure any diagnosis and treatment plan is accurate, personalized, and right for you.

How quickly can I get an appointment?

We do our best to see new patients as quickly as possible, often within the same week. You can view availability and book directly through our website at your convenience.

Existing Client FAQs

How do I get in touch with my provider directly?

The best way to reach us is through our patient portal or by calling our office directly. Our team monitors all messages and will ensure your inquiry reaches your provider promptly. If your question requires a direct response from your nurse practitioner, they will follow up with you via the portal or by phone.

I need an urgent or last-minute appointment — what should I do?

Please contact us as soon as possible by phone or through the patient portal and let us know your situation. We will do our best to accommodate you quickly. If your regular appointment slot is unavailable, we will work to find the earliest possible opening to address your needs.

I forgot to book my next appointment — how do I schedule it?

You can book your next appointment directly through our patient portal or by calling our office. We recommend scheduling your follow-up before or right after each visit to ensure you always have continuity of care. Appointment slots do fill up, so booking ahead is always a good idea.

Where do I get my prescriptions filled?

Your prescription will be sent electronically to the pharmacy you provided during your intake. If you need to update your preferred pharmacy at any time, simply let us know through the portal or during your next visit.

How do I know when my prescription is ready for pickup?

Your pharmacy will typically notify you directly when your prescription is ready. You can also contact your pharmacy to confirm. If you have any issues receiving your prescription, reach out to us through the portal and we will follow up on your behalf.

I think I'm experiencing side effects from my medication — what should I do?

Please contact us as soon as possible. You can reach us by phone or through the patient portal. Describe your symptoms and the medication you are taking and we will address your concern the same day. Do not stop taking your medication without speaking with your provider first unless you are experiencing a medical emergency, in which case please call 911.

My medication is affected by a nationwide shortage — what should I do?

We are sorry you are dealing with this. Please contact us through the portal or by phone and provide a few alternative pharmacy locations we can check for availability. If the shortage continues, your provider will schedule a visit to discuss alternative treatment options that may work for you.

I think I was billed incorrectly — who do I contact?

Please reach out to us directly by phone or through the patient portal with the details of your concern. We will review your account and our billing team will follow up with you promptly to resolve the issue.

Can I have my telehealth session from anywhere since it's virtual?

Not quite. Your nurse practitioner is licensed to practice in specific states, and you must be physically located in one of those states at the time of your appointment. This is a legal requirement, not a choice. If you are temporarily out of state — for travel, school, or other reasons — please let us know in advance so we can determine whether your visit can still take place or needs to be rescheduled.
